MANILA, Philippines?Chinese-Taipei seeks to retain its crown when the Asia Pacific leg of the Pony Baseball world championship gets going on July 17 at the Sto. Niño baseball field in Marikina City.
The champion of the week-long tournament will earn a slot in the Pony Baseball World Series slated July 31 to Aug. 3 in Washington, Pennsylvania.
Host Philippines will also see action in a separate Southeast Asian division, where it will go up against Indonesia.
The Southeast Asian champion will compete in the Pony 13 World Series in August 2011 in Fullerton, California.
The opening ceremony will be graced by newly elected officials led by Mayor Del de Guzman, Vice Mayor Fabian Cadiz, and second district Rep. Miro Quimbo.
?The local government?s baseball program for the youth is really impressive,? said Philippine Tot Baseball Foundation president Rodolfo Tingzon Jr.
Marikina is actually hosting the tournament for the third time in five years.
