ANOTHER Filipino boxer will make a stab at glory in Mexico on March 27 when WBC No. 1 ranked minimumweight contender Denver Cuello goes up against Juan Hernandez of Mexico for the WBC Interim Minimumweight world title.
The fight will be in the undercard of Erik ?El Terrible? Morales' comeback fight against Jose Alfaro of Nicaragua in Monterrey, Mexico.
The 23 year-old Cuello sports the ring monicker ?The Excitement? and hails from Tuy-an, Cabatuan, Iloilo. He has a record of 19 wins with 10 KOs, 2 losses and 5 draws while Hernandez has 16 wins (KO 13) and 1 loss.
Cuello?s manager Aljoe Jaro said Cuello has prepared well for the Mexican knockout artist since the winner of this fight will be the mandatory challenger for the winner of the WBC Championship bout between Oleydong Sithsamerchai of Thailand and Japan?s Yasutaka Kuroki who will face-off on the same date in Tokyo, Japan.
Cuello's most recent victory was by first round TKO over Samuel Apuya last January 23, 2010 at the Cuneta Astrodome which was one of the supporting bouts in the Brian Viloria-Carlos Tamara IBF lt.flyweight contest. Cuello is a former Philippine 105 lb champion and holds the WBC international minimumweight title. Hernandez holds the NABF minimumweight title.
Team Cuello will leave for Mexico via California, USA on March 21.
