Games Today:
1:45 p.m. Pharex B-Complex vs Cossack Blue
3:45 p.m. Cobra Energy Drink vs Excelroof
(Pharex and Cobra hold twice-to-beat advantage)
THE Pharex B Complex and the Cobra Energy Drink will try to set up a championship showdown when they face separate foes today in the semifinals of the 2010 PBL PG Flex-Erase Placenta Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Armed with the twice-to-beat advantage for topping the elimination round, Pharex and Cobra need only to win once against their opponents to advance to the best-of-three finals. Pharex, which emerged the top seed after topping the eight-team, single-round elims with a 6-1 record, collides with fourth-ranked Cossack Blue at 1:45 p.m. while No. 2 seed Cobra tackles third seeded Excelroof at 3:45 p.m.
Both Cobra and Excelroof finished tied for second to third places with similar 5-2 records but the Ironmen secured the No. 2 slot and the bonus that goes with it due to the winner-over-the-other rule.
With Patrick Cabahug scoring on an awkward jumper in the dying seconds, the Ironmen beat the 25ers, 66-65, last March 4.
The Cebuano sniper led Cobra to their third straight win last Thursday when the scored 25 points in their 88-82 win over Fern C. Paul Lee and Pari Llagas also scored 20 markers each in that win, that clinched a semifinal slot for the Ironmen.
But for Excelroof to prevail, it has to squeeze the best out of NCAA Finals MVP Jimbo Aquino, who has been playing inconsistently of late. Calvin Abueva, Pamboy Raymundo and veteran wingman Chester Taylor will also be called upon to provide numbers for the 25ers. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
