The reigning Liga Pilipinas national champions M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños has had the Alaska Aces' number since humiliating them late last year in a lopsided win.

Last night was no different as the Niños once again claimed a victory over the multi-titled squad, this time, with an 88-87 squeaker in their exhibition game at the University of San Carlos Gym.

The win, though, came with a dire cost as they lost Liga 3rd Conference MVP Woodrow Enriquez to an injury late in the third period.

The recent Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-awardee was taken out of the gym on a stretcher and brought immediately to the hospital after he landed badly on a drive-and-dish play with 2:23 left in the third canto.

He landed awkwardly on his side after he drove down the lane and kicked the ball out to import Jason Forte. After falling, he did not move and seemingly had trouble breathing, prompting medical personnel to tend to him. He was rushed to the Chong Hua Hospital where he was set to undergo an MRI as of press time.

The Ninos rallied from 13 points down in the fourth period and banked on two pressure-packed free-throws by Abby Santos with 5.8 seconds remaining in the game to eke out the victory, their second over the Aces in just a span of a few months.

The Ninos routed the Aces, 75-55, in an exhibition game held in September of last year.

Forte topped the Niños with 24 points while Stephen Padilla wound up with 22.

Import Diamon Simpson paced the Aces, runners-up in the recent PBA Philippine Cup, with 26 markers.

The Aces had control of the game in the third period, which they ended with a 9-2 run anchored on the six points of Simpson. They extended that lead to 13, 73-60, in the early moments of the final stanza.

The two teams battle once again today at the Don Celestino Memorial Complex in Bogo City.
