Many times in the past, Edward Hayco and the rest of Dancesport-Team Cebu City have proven their might both in the national and international fronts. Yet, Hayco and his group are not about to rest on their laurels.

True to his vision of transforming Cebu City as the dance capital of the world, Hayco last year came up with a monumental feat that left an indelible mark in the annals of Cebu sports - setting a Guinness world record for the biggest dance class.

For that feat, Hayco will receive the coveted ?Sportsman of the Year? award during the 28th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-San Miguel Brewery (SMB) All-Cebu Sports Awards at 6 tonight at the Casino Español de Cebu.

Self-effacing as he is, Hayco has never owned up to any triumph. He even waived his bragging rights in favor of all those who supported them in fulfilling what was once perceived an impossible dream of putting 7,770 dancers on June 27 last year at the Cebu City Sports Center.

What started out as a recreational and health-related activity for Edward and his ever supportive wife Eleanor turned to be a daring mission for them.

For about a decade now, Hayco had been on top of every achievement DTCC has earned, from winning gold medals here and abroad to conceptualizing barangayan dancesport workshops and later the inter-barangay competitions. He also organized and hosted several national and international events including the 3rd IDSF Open and the SEA Games in 2005.

SAC has already bestowed upon the same award to Hayco a few years back, but his tireless efforts in 2009 couldn't be left unnoticed.

Another Sportsman of the Year recipient, boxing patron Antonio "Bidoy" L. Aldeguer, will also be present in the gala awards this time as the guest of honor and inspirational speaker.

Multi-titled table tennis coach Jessica Jawad-Honoridez nets another ORLACSAN award for her selfless act of kindness, reaching out to the athletes and coaches of Luzon that were badly affected by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. He used the money allocated for her birthday celebration to buy food and pasalubong for the people she didn?t actually know.

Cebuano boxer Z ?The Dream? Gorres, whose touching tale of miraculous survival from a serious brain injury that almost cost him his life created a global impact in boxing, will be honored with the ?Presidential Award? while the late Cebu Sports Hall of Famer Eugene de la Cerna will be given a Posthumous Award for his contribution that led to the development of Cebu volleyball.

The major and minor awardees will also be feted while the winner of the coveted Athlete of the Year plum will be announced during the awards ceremony.
