ALA fighter Mark Jason Melligen will see action for the second time this year, when he takes on Norberto 'Demonio' Gonzalez on April 10 (not April 8 as erroneously reported by some quarters) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
This was relayed to Cebu Daily News yesterday by Melligen's Las Vegas-based trainer Anthony Martin, who also disclosed that the 10-round bout will be the main event of the Top Rank-promoted show.
?I am expecting Mark to arrive here by the end of this week, to resume training with me, in preparation for this coming fight,? Martin stated. ?We expect to win, and win well.?
The 28-year-old Gonzalez, who hails from Nuevo Leon, Mexico, parades an 18-1 (12 KO's) record and holds the Mexican welterweight title.
Melligen (17-2, 13 KO's), raised in Bacolod City but trains at the ALA Gym, is coming off an impressive sixth-round demolition of previously unbeaten Raymond Gatica at the Las Vegas Hilton on Feb. 13 on the ?Pinoy Power 3/Latin Fury 13? card also promoted by Top Rank.
Reports indicate that Gonzalez was originally slated to face Jesus Soto Karass, but the latter backed out, prompting organizers to tap Melligen in his place.
