Jr. NBA Visayas qualifiers become goodwill ambassadors

First Posted 07:42:00 03/10/2010

JUST A DAY after they were selected to the Jr. NBA National Training Camp, the 10 campers from the Visayas immediately made an impact as they participated as goodwill ambassadors at the SOS Children's Village, an institution that takes care of orphaned children, in Mandaue City last weekend.

The project was the first NBA Cares project in Cebu. Lorenzo Carampatana, Jarek Mercado, Jessineth Stephen Wahing and Patrick Nigel Go from the Sacred Heart School-Jesuits (SHS-J); John Agustin Pajantoy and Mitchel Vincent Antigua from the University of San Carlos; and Noel Villaceran from the San Roque Child Development School in Lapu Lapu City, conducted a basketball clinic for the youngsters alongside local Jr. NBA head coaches Elmer Cabahug and Al Solis.

They also donated daily necessities and stationeries to kids at the village.

Through the NBA Cares activities, the Jr. NBA program encourages participants to give back to their communities. The program was tipped off with an NBA Cares basketball clinic at the Marikina Heights Gym in Manila on Dec. 5, 2009. The Marikina Heights Gym basketball court was refurbished under the NBA Cares program.
