Filipino fighter Bernabe Concepcion will possibly get yet another crack at the world title sometime middle of this year this time against popular Puerto Rican Juan Manuel Lopez.
Top Rank head Bob Arum, in an interview with Boxingtalk, has revealed that the power-punching Concepcion is now groomed to face Lopez next in Puerto Rico sometime in June or July as part of an electronic double header that Top Rank will promote.
Concepcion, however, will have to take care of business first before availing himself of a world title opportunity as he takes on Mario Santiago this Sunday as part of the Pinoy Power/Latin Fury fight card set at the swanky Las Vegas Hilton.
ABS-CBN will telecast this bout, along with the other featured bouts involving Filipinos Gerry Penalosa, Ciso Morales, and Mark Jason Melligen who will all be facing Latino opponents.
According to Arum, if Concepcion takes care of Santiago, the plan is to pit him against Lopez in a WBO featherweight duel with the winner facing the winner of the Yuyiorkis Gamboa-Celestino Caballero showdown set for Miami.
A native of Virac, Catanduanes, the 22-year-old Concepcion (27-3-1, 15KO's) is currently training at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles alongside superstar Manny Pacquiao and Penalosa.
Ciso Morales, who will challenge WBO bantam champ Fernando Montiel in Sunday's card, is currently training at the Kennel Boxing Club in California, while Melligen trains under Tony Martin in Las Vegas, Nevada.
