CEBU GRASSROOTS basketball is expected to get even more exciting as the ML Kwarta Padala Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) 2010 tournament kicks off Sunday at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuits basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
The CYBL is a tournament that will pit Cebu's top schools in three different age classes. These are the 16-Under, the 13-Under and 10-Under. 21 teams have already signed up spread across the age groups.
Bannering the field is the 2008 CYBL champion and 2009 runner-up University of San Carlos-South Campus who will be joined by USC North and the SHS-J Eagles. Other teams in the 16-Under age group are Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT), University of San Jose Recoletos USJR)/Ave Maria Sanctuary Park, Springdale, and USC South-B.
The 13-Under age group is divided into two divisions, namely the Division A and the Developmental division. USC North will defend its CYBL 2009 championship and will face stiff opposition from 2009 Milo BEST SBP Cebu champion USC South-A, SHSJ-A and SHSJ-B.
The 13-Under Developmental division is composed of USJR/Ave Maria Sanctuary Park, Springdale, Southwestern University and USC South-B. SHSJ will be hard-pressed to defend its 10-Under age group championship. The age group also features USC North, USJR/Ave Maria Sanctuary Park, USC South and Springdale.
