A well-rested Filipino GM Wesley Barbasa So is aching to claim his his first ever win as he battled Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna last night in the fifth round of 72nd Corus international chess championship Group B in The Netherlands.
The 16-year-old So, the 2009 Corus Group C champion, drew his first four assignments against top seed GM Arkadij Naiditsch of Germany, GM Erwin l'Ami of the Netherlands, GM Varuzhan Akobian of the United States and GM Parimarjan Negi of India.
So had 2.0 points in a tie for 6th place along with Negi, Naiditsch, former World Championship finalist Romanian GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu and Finnish GM Tomi Nyback.
Dutch GM Anish Giri and Chinese GM Ni Hua, both leading the 13-round tournament with 3.0 points, will try to keep their lead against Israeli GM Emil Sutovsky and English GM David Howell, respectively.
