FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR.?S SIGNATURE defensive move, the shoulder roll, may not be enough to withstand Manny Pacquiao?s power shots when they clash in March, according to a San Francisco, California, orthopedic surgeon.
Dr. Art Lee, who is also a boxing enthusiast and kung fu master, said in an article written by Simeon Vergara of the Maharlikan Times on Dec. 22, that Mayweather is in danger of hurting his left shoulder if he parries the Filipino superstar?s heavy punches with it.
?Pacquiao?s power shots can disarticulate Mayweather?s infamous shoulder-rolling defense,? Lee said.
Mayweather uses the shoulder roll with such skill and precision that very few boxers have managed to hit him hard, especially in the face, without getting punched back.
The American is still unbeaten in 40 fights and won his last by thoroughly dominating Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in 12 rounds.
But while the shoulder roll has been effective against Marquez and Co., it may not work against the seven-time world champion Pacquiao, Lee said.
After reviewing Mayweather?s previous fights, Lee said Pacquiao can easily pin down Mayweather when they tangle on March 13 at 147 pounds, most likely at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The surgeon predicts Pacquiao will break Mayweather down in the first six rounds and then finish him off between the seventh and 11th rounds.
