THE BURGER King Whoppers survived an endgame scare from the Barako Bull Energy Boosters and escape with a narrow 102-99 win last night in the 35th PBA-KFC Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Burger King snapped a two-game slide, tallying its fifth win in 14 games that brightened its chances of securing a seat in the wildcard phase.

The Whoppers led by as many as 13 points in the third period but the Energy Boosters rallied in the fourth and came within two points.

Gary David, Chico Lanete and Ronjay Buenafe bailed the Whoppers out of danger after they combined for eight points in the final two minutes to seal the hard-earned victory?a stark contrast of their easy 102-86 triumph over the same Barako Bull squad in their first round battle last Nov. 20.

The Energy Boosters endured their ninth straight defeat, joining the Coca-Cola Tigers at the cellar with similar 2-11 (win-loss) slates.

Richard Yee led led the Whoppers with 21, while Beau Belga and David added 14 and 12, respectively.

Yousif Aljamal topped the Energy Boosters with 19 markers, Richard Alonzo donated 18, while Felix Belano finished with 16. EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
