The semifinal cast in the women's division of the provincial cluster of the 2009 Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup has been completed.

Liloan, Sta. Fe and Minglanilla joined early qualifiers and defending champions Catmon in the next round following their impressive victories in the quarterfinal round yesterday at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City.

Liloan, last year's runners-up in the competition, topped bracket B and took the no. 1 seed there as they finished the quarterfinal round with an immaculate 5-0 (win-loss) record, the same as Catmon's record, who is ranked first in bracket A. Liloan handily defeated Tuburan, 25-22, 25-18, for their fifth win in a row.

Grabbing the second seed in bracket B was Sta. Fe, which finished off the last of their assignments in this round by outlasting Barili in a thrilling three-set contest, 20-25, 26-24, 25-14. They ended the quarters with a 4-1 record.

The second seed in bracket A was taken by Minglanilla, which had the same record as Sta. Fe, after they defeated Dalaguete, 25-17, 25-10.

The semifinal pairings tomorrow will see Catmon taking on Sta. Fe while Liloan battles Minglanilla.

The winners in this two contests will advance to the championship round on Sunday afternoon, where they will duke it out for the right to the title and the P100,000 cash prize.

MEN?S LEADER

Meanwhile, in the men's side, Minglanilla continues to reign over bracket B as they captured their fourth win in as many games after defeating Carmen via default.

Catmon remains in hot pursuit as they improved their record to 3-0 after defeating Barili, 25-23, 25-11.

Liloan, the leaders in bracket A, also remained unblemished as they zoomed off to their fourth win in a row following their 25-9, 25-13 win over Dalaguete.
