FRANCIS CASEY Alcantara put a stamp on his dominating form in the Phinma International Juniors tennis tournament as he won his second title in as many weeks after finishing off Belgian Jeroen Vanneste, 6-2, 6-3, for the Week 2 title yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center .
Alcantara used his power to stifle Vanneste and frustrated his rival with solid returns, breaking thrice in two sets to wrap up the boys' championship worth another 40 ITF ranking points in the Grade 4 event.
The 17-year old, who hails from Cagayan de Oro, added another feather to his cap after winning this year?s Australian Open Juniors title, swept the rest of the tournament which spanned two weeks and attracted some of the world?s up and coming junior netters. He also defeated Yoshihito Nishioka, 7-5, 6-0, to pocket the Week 1 crown last Sunday.
Fourth seed Ran Tian of China matched Alcantara's feat with her own twin title sweep but did the trick by beating top seed Lin Zhu of China, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, to highlight a two-week show of superb tennis in the tournament.
Leander Lazaro and Kim Saraza, however, failed to cap the RP netters domination of the week-long event as they dropped a 3-6, 6-1, (10-7) decision to Romar Hernandez of the US and Chinese Xing Bang Liu in the boys doubles finals. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
