ACTION heats up in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League as the ?Elite Eight? stage unfolds today with a playdate that will be highlighted by a rematch of this year's UAAP ?Final Four? match-up between the University of the East Red Warriors and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, at the Ynares Center in Pasig City.
The Tamaraws have a huge axe to grind against the Red Warriors after the latter ousted them out of the semifinals in spite holding a twice-to-beat advantage. UE went on to the UAAP Finals before losing to eventual champions Ateneo in three games while FEU finished third.
Meanwhile, the other quarterfinals pairing will see the former three-time champions San Beda Red Lions going up against the Mapua Cardinals. While San Beda cruised to a 91-50 win over the San Sebastian-Cavite Baycats, Mapua had to eke past nine-time Cesafi champions University of the Visayas, 76-73, in an upset victory.
The final quarterfinal slot was claimed by the University of Sto. Tomas which edged Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 64-62. UST will next face Ateneo in yet another UAAP semifinals rematch while NCAA champions San Sebastian Stags, tackle Letran.
