THE two top teams of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) this year, will finally see action as they try to advance to the ?Elite Eight? of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) against tough opponents today, at the Arena in San Juan City.
Nine-time Cesafi champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers will be gunning to redeem themselves after their first round exit last year, when they battle the Mapua Cardinals in the main game at 4 pm. This year's runner-up, the University of Cebu Webmasters, who are seeing action in the PCCL for the first time, will have their hands full against UAAP runners-up, University of the East Red Warriors at 2 pm.
The Green Lancers, starring Smart Gilas member and two-time Cesafi MVP Greg Slaughter, are itching to make it back to the finals after making it there two years ago. They fell short last year and were upset by UE in the ?Sweet 16.?
The Webmasters meanwhile, will be leaning on 6-foot-10 giant June Mar Fajardo, when they face UAAP Mythical Five members Paul Lee and Elmer Espiritu and the rest of the Red Warriors. Also expected to contribute for UC are Moncrief Rogado, Kelvin Juliane and Jansen Abella.
Already in the ?Elite Eight? are UAAP champions Ateneo, San Beda, Far Eastern University and Letran. The winner of the UV-Mapua match will face San Beda while the winner of the UC-UE tiff battles FEU in the next round. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
