THE PHILIPPINE Patriots got the break that they needed as they took the solo lead in the standings after the resurgent Kuala Lumpur Dragons upended erstwhile leaders Singapore Slingers, 86-74, in the ASEAN Basketball League at the latter's home floor over the weekend.
Former University of the East point guard Rudy Lingganay shone for the Dragons as he scored 21 points to lead his squad to the upset win.
The Dragons? victory coupled with the Patriots' win over the Satria Muda Britama last Saturday helped the RP Patriots grab the solo lead.
The RP Patriots streaked to their fourth straight win and fifth overall in six starts by crushing Indonesia?s Satria Muda BritAma, 74-56, at The Arena in San Juan last Saturday. The Slingers, who suffered a stinging 70-53 loss to the Patriots two weeks ago, slipped to second with a 5-2 card.
Also on Sunday, the Thailand Tigers, drawing 27 points from Chaz Briggs and another all-around performance from Filipino import Axel Doruelo, got back at the Brunei Barracudas, 91-86, at the Nimibutr National Stadium in Thailand. The win improved the Tigers? record to 2-4 while the Barracudas, led by former PBA player Don Camaso, dropped to the cellar with a 2-5 record.
The Patriots will next face the Thailand Tigers on Tuesday next week at the Ynares Sports Arena before colliding with the Indons for the third time on Dec. 5 at The Arena. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
