The inability to close out games continued to hound the Barako Bull Energy Boosters after they absorbed a sorry 77-80 overtime loss to the Sta. Lucia Realtors last night in the 35th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Barako Bull played solid basketball for most part of the game, posting several double-digit leads in the second half but could not just deliver the killer blows at endgame that allowed Sta. Lucia to steal the victory.
Barako Bull had a sizable 56-48 lead at the start of the fourth but tapered off when Sta. Lucia staged its comeback.
Still, the Energy Boosters had the chance to salvage the win but Aries Dimaunahan's potential game-winning reverse layup was blocked by Gabby Espinas as the regulation buzzer sounded.
Shifty guard Joseph Yeo took over in the overtime period, where he scored six of his 16 points, helping Sta. Lucia nail its fifth win in eight games?good for fourth place in the standings.
Gabby Espinas, Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes were the other Realtors in double figures with 15, 14, and 11 markers, respectively.
Yousif Aljamal, Chad Alonzo, Ogue Menor and Gilbert Lao combined for 46 points as the Energy Boosters dropped to 2-7 (win-loss) overall.
