The Alaska Aces try to bounce back from a sorry loss against the lowly Rain or Shine Elasto Painters when they play the defending champions Talk N Text Tropang Texters in an explosive main game of the 35th PBA Philippine Cup at 7:30 p.m. today at the Araneta Coliseum.
Succumbing to a poor endgame performance, the Aces stumbled to their first loss in the tournament last Nov. 13 after they were shocked by the Painters, 81-86.
Despite the loss, Alaska remains on top of the standings with six wins and one loss.
Barangay Ginebra had the chance to tie Alaska at the top but got massacred by the Sta. Lucia Realtors last Wednesday, 72-93.
Today's game will serve as a rematch of the previous season's Philippine Cup Finals.
The grueling series reached the distance before the Texters ran away with the title, closing out the epic series, 4-3.
Facing the Texters will be a big test for the Aces, who have been consistently holding the top spot of the standings.
?The game against Talk n Text is a real test for us,? Alaska team captain Jeff Cariaso told alaskaaces.com.ph. ?It is going to be a big, big test to see if we deserve to be in first place. We have worked hard to prepare. We are ready.?
?We are ready and motivated to play any game. Personally, I have to admit that I am a bit more anxious because we are playing against Talk n Text,? said Joe De Vance.
Talk N Text has won its last two games and another win today will allow them to move closer at the top.
The Texters occupy the solo fourth place with a 5-2 (win-loss) record.
Meanwhile, after snapping a three-game slump, the Burger King Whoppers look to make it two-in-a-row against the Barako Bull Energy Boosters.
Both squads are at the bottom part of the standings with similar 2-5 slates.
The Whoppers snapped their three-game losing streak by outlasting the Coca-Cola Tigers, 106-97, last Wednesday.
?We really needed this win to get us going. It?s tough to motivate the team when you?re not winning so I hope this would get us back on track,? said Burger King coach Yeng Guiao after their hard-earned win.
Barako Bull is on a three-game slide.
