The Burger King Whoppers tightened the defensive screws at endgame to outlast the Coca-Cola Tigers, 106-97, and put an end to an alarming slump in the 35th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum, last night.

The Whoppers limited the Tigers to just one point in the final 2:10 to grind out the tough victory?just their second in seven battles.

The two squads battled back and forth for most of the way and was even tied at 96-all in the final 2:10.

Ronjay Buenafe, Gary David and Cebuano big man JR Quiñahan then conspired in a telling 10-1 run, allowing the Whoppers to seal the win and snap a three-game slide.

The trio actually just finished what Mark Yee started as the 6-foot-3 workhorse scored 17 of his conference-high 19 points in the fourth quarter that enabled the Tigers to keep up with the Tigers, who entered the final period with a 75-70 lead.

Yee also added five rebounds and was perfect from the charity stripe where he went eight-for-eight.

Buenafe finished with 19 points, David had 17 markers while Belga tallied 15.

The Whoppers led by nine points after the first canto, 29-20, but tapered off in the middle periods to surrender the lead to the Tigers.

The Tigers, however, ran out of gas in the closing minutes to absorb their second straight defeat to drop to 1-5 (win-loss) overall.

Alex Cabagnot had 20 points to lead the Tigers who continued to struggle without starting center Asi Taulava. Taulava is out with a fractured foot.
