5 p.m. ? Burger King vs. Coca-Cola

7:30 p.m. ? Sta. Lucia vs. Ginebra

The Brgy. Ginebra Gin Kings will be gunning for a share of the lead in the standings of the 2009 PBA KFC Philippine Cup when they battle the Sta. Lucia Realtors in the curtain-raiser of the twinbill today at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Gin Kings are just half a game behind the Alaska Aces for the best record in the league. Their hard-earned 83-79 win over the Burger King Whoppers last weekend in Tubod, Lanao del Norte put their record at 5-1 (win-loss) while Alaska?s 81-86 shocking loss to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters gave them their first loss of the season in six games.

The Kings nearly lost a 16-point advantage against the resilient Whoppers before Cyrus Baguio saved the day with a crucial three-point shot that padded their precarious four-point lead down the stretch.

Ginebra also welcomed back spitfire point guard Jayjay Helterbrand from a knee injury and the Powerade Team Pilipinas member contributed six points along with an assist and a rebound.

On the other hand, the Realtors are coming off a thrilling 96-95 win over guest team Smart Gilas that gave them the momentum following their disastrous 69-88 defeat at the hands of the San Miguel Beermen. Sta. Lucia is toting an even 3-3 card and their chances today will largely hinge on the performances of former MVP Kelly Williams, Joseph Yeo and Nelbert Omolon among others.

Meanwhile, the Whoppers and the Coca-Cola Tigers, both of whom are having forgettable seasons, will be tangling in the first game. The Tigers are sporting a 1-4 record while the Whoppers have fared no better, bringing the rear with a 1-5 card.
