DEFENDING champion Talk N Text had to rally in the fourth period to carve out a victory that head coach Chot Reyes said they didn?t deserve.
The Texters leaned on a blistering 21-0 run in the fourth period to escape with a 93-90 win over the upset-conscious Barako Bull Energy Boosters in the 35th PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City yesterday.
Despite the win, Reyes criticized his wards for a lackluster performance that nearly cost them the game.
?My heart goes to Barako Bull because they should have won this game. We do not deserve to win this game,? Reyes told pba.ph.
The Energy Boosters were poised to pull of a huge upset when they took an 82-67 lead going into the final nine minutes of the contest.
Jimmy Alapag keyed Talk N Text big comeback and his triple in the final 5:14 gave his squad the lead for good, 83-82.
Jared Dillinger and Macmac Cardona gave Barako Bull more headaches when the duo connived in another run that powered the Texters to a 91-86 lead with only 1:28 left.
Alapag scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Texters, who bagged their fourth win in six games. Ogie Menor had 12 for the Energy Boosters, who dropped to their fourth loss in six outings. EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
