The Brgy. Ginebra Gin Kings will be trying to firm up their hold of second place in the standings when they tackle the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters today in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Kings will be looking to hold its own against Gabe Norwood, Solomon Mercado and the rest of the Painters, who are hungry for their first win in this tournament.
They are currently languishing at the bottom of the standings with a 0-5 (win-loss) record while Ginebra is flying high, following their 94-86 win over the Barako Bull even without their fast-and -furious duo of Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa.
The duo was sidelined in Ginebra?s last game but their absence was hardly felt with the solid contributions of Ronald Tubid, Cyrus Baguio and Enrico Villanueva.
Even 1996 MVP Johnny Abarrientos, who was playing in just his second game in the last two seasons, got in the act, logging in six assists, three rebounds and a steal in 10 minutes of action.
The other game will see the Talk N Text Tropang Texters try to shore up their 2-1 record against the Purefoods TJ Giants. /correspondent Jonas Panerio
