The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors became the second squad from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) to make it to the Sweet 16 stage of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) after they finished their stint in the Bacolod zonal qualifying stage with an 86-63 win over the Holy Trinity College Wildcats Friday night at the West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City.

The Warriors, third placers in the Cesafi this year, finished the tournament with a 2-1 (win-loss) record and joined Arellano University as the two teams advancing to the round-of-16.

The Chiefs finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 mark after crushing the hosts WNU Mustangs, 79-67.

Nine-time Cesafi champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers were the first Cebu squad to book a slot in the Sweet 16 by virtue of their title win this year.

Meanwhile, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters ’ own bid to make it to Manila was derailed after they were upset by the Adamson Falcons, 72-78, in the main game of the Cebu zonal competition late Friday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Adamson put one foot in the door of a berth in the next round of the tournament after eking past the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 84-81, in the game yesterday at the same venue.

Alvin Margallo scored 15 points for the Falcons.

USC got the jump on their opponents early in the match and never looked back after zooming off to an 18-2 lead.
