Cebu may still host next year’s final if....

After Cebu's successful hosting of the 1st National Milo Little Olympics, it seems nobody is interested to take over the role for next year's edition of the multi-sports event.

?Mindanao wanted it at first but now, they are passing the buck among themselves (Mindanao, National Capital Region and Luzon) on who would host next year's event,? said Ricky Ballesteros, Visayas delegation head.

Ballesteros said he would agree to have Cebu host the Nationals again if his demands would be met including the upgrading of equipment.

For this year?s maiden competition, Cebu had to borrow foams from Cagayan de Oro for the landing pads in the high jump event, while the timers were rented from the Philippine Aquatic Sports Association.

Despite this, Ballesteros said he considered the first-ever Milo Nationals very successful.

?We received no complaints, in fact, they were very impressed with the officiating and the whole event from start to finish,? he said adding that he received positive feedback in officiating, especially in the track and field events. ?Our officiating officials were very careful and really called the attention of those who committed violations,? Ballesteros said.

Participants also appreciated the accommodations as they were billeted in hotels.

Milo always provides participating athletes with accommodation, transportation allowance and food for the whole duration of the event.

Visayas athletes who were from outside Cebu City were also accommodated in a hotel while those who live in the city were given P1,000 allowance.

Ballesteros also beamed with pride for the successful holding of the opening and closing ceremonies, which he conceptualized. Directed by Junjet Primor, the two events cost Milo about P2 million.

The Cebu City government also provided airconditioned buses for the participants and 24-hour security at the Cebu City Sports Center, where most events were held.

Personally, Ballesteros, said he would want the Milo meet to have the same number of swimming events as the Palarong Pambansa. He also said the screening process for taekwondo needs to be fine tuned after several athletes were disqualified and hopes that basketball be included in the next Nationals because of its popularity.

Cebu's hosting of the event also provided other delegates a deeper understanding of the points system, which was first adopted in the Milo regionals.

Delegation officials also appreciated the score sheets printed in a tarpaulin and posted on a wall for easy monitoring as well as the quick update provided by the secretariat headed by Aude Marte.

Meanwhile, a thanksgiving Mass will be held on Nov. 6 at the CCSC for the hassle-free finals.
