Organizers will be extra careful and strict when the first-ever National Milo Little Olympics comes off the wraps tonight at the Cebu City Sports Center.
During its official launching yesterday, officials said they hope to avoid age cheaters, undisciplined athletes and unsportsmanlike behavior to ensure that the country's biggest inter-school multi sporting event will be a success.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Ricky Ballesteros, said he particularly made sure of the screening test to make sure that all athletes are qualified.
Ballesteros was joined in the launching yesterday by regional delegation heads Margot Jimenez, Tess Bernardino, Rod Coquia and John Montalban. Mindanao organizer Meg Llamera, Milo executive Pat Goc-ong, technical consultant Robert Can-o and Nestle representative Lester Castillo were also present.
The Visayas region has the biggest delegation with Luzon having the second highest number of athletes.
Luzon athletes are mostly from the northern part of the region, which is preparing for another typhoon hit this week. They made sure to get here before the typhoon reached their area to avoid being stranded.
Some athletes who were affected by the previous two storms said they only had a little time to practice because of the bad whether.
The organizers, meanwhile, unveiled the most coveted Perpetual Trophy, which will will be awarded to the team which bags the overall championship three straight times.
Leading the list of top contenders are teams from Tangub City, Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and General Santos for Mindanao while University of Baguio banners the Luzon delegation.
Today?s opening ceremony starts at 6 p.m. with a colorful presentation and fireworks display.
