Athletes and team officials from Mindanao, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Luzon will arrive in Cebu tomorrow to get ready for the first-ever National Championships of the Milo Little Olympics, which will be held at the Cebu City Sports Center this weekend.
The multi-sporting event will feature winners of the regional legs of the school-based competition.
Nestle CEO John Miller is expected to grace the opening ceremonies of the biggest junior multi-sport competition. He will be joined by Tourism Secretary Ace Durano and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
The opening will be highlighted by performers escorting each delegation wearing each region's traditional costumes.
The performers will be headed by the multi-awarded Sinulog dance group Lumad Basakanon and the Dance troupes from University of Cebu (UC), University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF), University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) and University of the Visayas (UV).
Some festival dance groups will also entertain the crowd such as those from Danao for the Karanza Festival, Hinulawan Festival of Toledo, Sibonga for the Bunga Festival, Moalboal for the Kagasangan Festival and Carcar for Cabcaban Festival.
Another highlight will be the fireworks display, which will take place after the introduction program.
Leading the list of top contenders are teams from Tangub City, Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and General Santos for Mindanao while University of Baguio banners the Luzon delegation.
The Visayas contingent is headed by the University of Cebu (UC), University of San Carlos (USC), Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J), Paref Springdale, Abellana National School, among others.
The event will use the points system to determine the winners.
