MANILA, Philippines? When Far Eastern University coach Ernesto Pamilar made it to the game midway in the third set, he certainly liked what he saw from his Lady Tamaraws.
Brandishing a ferocious attacking game, the Lady Tamaraws, despite missing their mentor in the first two and a half sets, overpowered the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19, Sunday night in the Shakey?s V-League Season 6 second conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Earlier, University of Santo Tomas notched its fourth straight win with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 mauling of University of the Philippines.
Angeli Tabaquero continued to sparkle for the Tigresses, posting a team-high 15 points as UST warmed up for its duel with another favorite, Ateneo-Oracare, Tuesday.
The Tigresses were so dominant coach Cesael Delos Santos didn?t see the need to call a timeout for the one hour and 4-minute match.
?We played very well,? said Delos Santos, whose team can clinch a playoff berth for a quarterfinal slot with a victory over the Lady Eagles. ?I?m not thinking of a sweep yet. But I?m happy with our form.?
Pamilar rushed to the Arena after helping steer Letran College to a thrilling five-set win over San Beda College and a third consecutive men?s crown in the NCAA at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym.
His squad was doing just fine when he got there with Cherry Vivas and Shaira Gonzales holding the fort for the Lady Tamaraws, who jacked up their record to 2-1.
Thrust into a central attacking role, the 5-foot-9 Vivas thrived, finishing with 22 points built on 17 attacks, three blocks and two service aces.
Pamilar was particularly satisfied with the performance of Vivas, who has been converted into a central spiker following the departure of Maica Morada.
