REY ?Boom Boom? Bautista scorched the comeback trail Friday night with a devastating seventh round TKO win over Indonesian Marangin ?Dinamita? Marbun to win the interim WBC international featherweight title at the packed Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
Also joining Bautista in the winners? podium were his fellow ALA warriors who swept their respective matches in the ?Hamon sa Kampeon? card.
Both Bautista and Marbun tasted each other?s jabs and right hands in the opening round but Bautista also mixed in left hooks to the body. But Marbun showed he was no patsy as he took Bautista?s punches well and landed effective counters in the second round.
In the third round, a left hook staggered Bautista but he bounced back and hurt Marbun with his own left hook and right straight. Marbun set up his offense behind a sharp left jab and Bautista looked to be in trouble in the 4th as he hit the canvas. But it was ruled a slip by referee Bruce McTavish.
They continued to trade bombs in the 4th until a straight left dropped Marbun. The Indonesian got up and continued to trade with Bautista.
In the seventh, a sharp left followed by a powerful right straight deposited Marbun near the neutral corner. Referee McTavish signaled the end at 1:25 of the 7th. Marbun was visibly disappointed with the loss and he was even screaming when he was attended to by the medical personnel at ringside.
Meanwhile, Marjun Yap won by 10th round TKO over battle-hardened veteran Pramuansak Posuwan Kokietgym when the Thailander suddenly limped and fell in the opening seconds of the final round apparently due to leg cramps.
Czar Amonsot won a 10 round unanimous decision over Jesus Muzaka Singwancha. The southpaw Amonsot started tentatively but found his target in the ensuing rounds. The scorecards read 96-94, 98-92 and 97-93 for Amonsot.
WBO Vice-Pres. Leon Panoncillo, who was at ringside, said that because Muzaka lost in a non-title bout above his weight class, his WBO Asia-Pacific jr.lightweight title will be declared vacant.
Young Pagara decisions Thai
Jason Pagara survived a bruising ring war and won by unanimous decision over Decha (Bankluaygym) Kokietgym. Both boxers took turns hammering each other with blistering combinations.
