7 p.m. ? Mandaue Landmasters vs. Forward Taguig

THE MANDAUE Landmasters had their homecoming ruined in the face of a torrent third-period onslaught by the visiting Quezon Red Oilers.

The Red Oilers routed hosts Mandaue, 79-66, in the Mandaue City leg of the 2009 Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference 3 Wednesday at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

After a lackadaisical opening period, the Landmasters appeared to have found their bearings in the ensuing stanza as they unleashed a 16-2 run behind the hot shooting of former Letran hotshots Boyet Bautista and JP Alcaraz that turned an 16-22 deficit into a formidable 32-24 lead.

The Landmasters eventually held a 34-31 lead at the turn.

The second half was entirely another story as the Red Oilers seized control of the game with an incredible 23-3 run that gave them a 54-39 lead heading into the last period.

At the helm of that seige was speedy guard Ramsey Williams along with sinewy forward Bogs Raymundo and sniper Jorel Canizares.

Quezon's defense was also top-notch during that stretch as they held the Landmasters to just five points in the entire third period.

The last canto was a mere formality except for a brief scuffle at the 8:48 mark that saw Mandaue wingman Jercules Tangkay get ejected from the game after throwing the ball at the referee moments after making a lay-up.

According to league officials, Tangkay will be suspended for one game, thus missing yesterday's match against Zamboanga, which was still ongoing as of press time.

Raymundo led the way for Quezon with 15 points and nine rebounds while Williams had 12 points and three assists.

The first game saw Forward Taguig beat Zamboanga, 112-85.
