‘Hamon’ pugs make weight, explosive card on tonight

Tonight’s fights will be aired over Studio 23 First Posted 09:46:00 10/16/2009

The fighters for the much-anticipated ?Hamon sa Kampeon? card easily made weight during the official weigh-in yesterday morning at the SM Cebu City Entertainment Center, setting the stage for a bloody encounter at the ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel tonight.

Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista and Marangin ?Dinamita? Marbun of Indonesia will clash in the main event, a 12-round battle for the interim WBC International featherweight title. Both fighters promised that the outcome of the fight will not be left to the judges? scorecards.

Czar Amonsot will face Thailand?s Black Tiger, Jesus Muzaka Singwancha, in a 10-round non-title lightweight contest. The bout between two hard punchers not only promises to steal the thunder away from the main event but will also decide which boxer has the best hairstyle in Southeast Asia.

Marjun Yap of Cagayan de Oro will face Thailand?s Pramuansak Posuwan Kokietgym. Posuwan once lost a 12-round bout with Puerto Rico?s Jose Lopez for the vacant WBO world superflyweight title. This is the same Lopez that lost his WBO crown to Marvin Sonsona last September.

Jason Pagara, the Philippine lightweight champion, will face Decha Bankluaygym of Thailand. Pagara has beaten two Indonesian boxers this year, Hero Katili by 3rd round TKO and Simson Butar-butar by 10 round decision.

The boxers for the four other supporting bouts also made weight: lt.flyweights Marjohn Macahilig vs Roque Lauro (6 rds), lt. flyweights Jomar Cordinillo vs Fernando Okon (6 rds), jr.featherweights Romnick Hoybia vs Edison Berwela (4 rds), Jefferson Reodeque vs JR Salvador (4 rds).

The weigh-in was supervised by Rolando Mendoza of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) and also attended by national GAB officials, Chairman Eric Buhain, Commissioner Angel Bautista and boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz.

Waterfront Hotel gates open at 4PM, while fight time is at 5 PM. It will be shown on ABS-CBN?s Studio 23 and also aired in Thailand.
