Controversial rookie Japeth Aguilar had a sub-par performance in his Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) debut with Burger King.
He will try to bounce back from that so-so performance on Friday, ironically against the same Whoppers squad.
After playing his first game with the Whoppers?the team that drafted him as the number one overall pick in the Rookie Draft?the 6-foot-9 Aguilar was traded and will now suit up with the Smart Gilas Team, the rookie's original choice.
Burger King team manager Lito Alvarez, announced the shocking development moments after the team's 80-93 loss to the Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants last Sunday.
In a report posted at the pba-online.net, Aguilar was traded first to Barako Bull before he was sent to the Talk `N Text Tropang Texters.
The Texters then sent Aguilar to the Smart-Gilas Team.
Barako Bull acted as conduit to the trade since Burger King and Talk`N Text can't be involved in a direct deal as per PBA rules since Pangilinan has stakes in both franchises.
Aguilar played 24 minutes in his PBA debut, tallying 10 points, nine rebounds and one blocked shot block.
"Japeth really wants to play for Smart-Gilas," said Ronnie Nathanielz, Aguilar's manager-adviser. "He is more comfortable there and he thinks that he can learn more from (Rajko) Toroman."
Aguilar initially refused to suit up with the Whoppers before he finally agreed to sign a one-year deal with Burger King.
