Unit Five, through the combined efforts of powerhouse University of Cebu (UC) and the Southwestern University (SWU), emerged overall champions in the secondary division of the 19th Cebu City Olympics at the Cebu City Sports Center.
After two weekends of exciting multi-sporting action, Unit Five stayed on top with 281 points to book seats for Cebu City's lineup for the upcoming Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (CVIRAA) meet this Nov. 8 in Danao.
Pivotal victories in arnis and basketball, which was worth a combined 40 points, together with their domination in athletics, badminton, chess and swimming allowed Unit Five to cruise to the crown.
Unit Nine came in at second with 243.25 points as they finished strong in baseball, softball, boxing and sepak takraw.
Organizers finally solved the technical problem regarding the placement of some athletes from the University of San Carlos? (USC) North and South campuses.
They later confirmed that USC North and South belonged to Unit Four, which finished with 234.25 points.
Unit Four had a perfect 30 points in the archery and taekwondo and got 52.5 points in the athletics and dancesport.
Unit Four also topped the Elementary division with 285.5 points.
They got 60 points from athletics and 50 from their favorite sport, swimming.
Unit Six earned 194.25 points to place second after the University of the Visayas (UV) shone in the gymnastics event.
Unit One headed by the Don Bosco Technological School (DBTS) finished third with 172.5 after they won the football event, which is worth 25 points.
UC?s collegiate team, meanwhile, harvested 28 gold medals to emerge champions in the tertiary level.
UC totaled 77 medals with 34 silvers and 15 bronze medals.
Most of their wins were from table tennis, athletics and badminton.
SWU finished second with 21 gold medals, seven silver and 21 bronze medals.USC rounded up the top three with 30 medals, 19 of it were gold.
Overall champions earn rights to represent Cebu in the upcoming CVIRAA.
The last day of the event was concluded by a closing program headed by Nenita Pardinilla, Councilor Gerardo Carillo and the organizers.
