Former WBC lightweight king Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico arrived in the country early morning yesterday to beef up the roster of sparmates for superstar Manny Pacquiao in preparation for his bout with Miguel Cotto.
Castillo arrived from Los Angeles accompanied by another fighter, light welterweight Danny Escobar who might also be tapped to spar with Pacquiao. The duo were immediately whisked away from the airport into a Manila hotel as travel plans for Baguio were made.
Both Castillo and Escobar might be airlifted to Baguio as the country's summer capital remains inaccessible due to landslides that hit the city.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Pacquiao is mulling on leaving for the US earlier than planned due to the inclement weather which has somehow affected his training, relegating his morning runs to indoor runs on the treadmill.
According to ABS-CBN, Pacquiao might opt to fly to the US on Oct. 19, instead of the original plan of leaving on Oct. 24.
?Ang alam ko pagsige-sige ang ulan ay baka umalis na siya papuntang US baka hindi na siya bumaba ng Maynila. Kasi instead of 24 baka 19 na lang ay aalis na siya,? Ferdie Marquez, Pacquiao's musical director for an upcoming concert, told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Marquez said he was informed of the latest plans by the boxer?s close friend and musical composer Lito Camo, who wrote Pacquiao?s hit songs ?Para sa Iyo ang Laban na ?To? and ?Lahing Pinoy?.
He said Pacquiao and Decena were supposed to hold a three-night rehearsal in Baguio for the after-fight concert starting Friday (October 9) until Sunday (October 11).
?Hindi kami [na]tuloy kasi sarado na ang mga daan [dahil sa bagyo]. Kahapon niya (Pacquiao) pa kami hinihintay kaso nga hindi talaga pwede,? said Marquez.
