Swimming pts excluded in tally; Unit 9 takes lead

First Posted 07:52:00 10/11/2009

A technical problem pushed Unit Nine to the temporarily lead in the partial championship rankings of the 19th Cebu City Olympics at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Officials of the swimming competition of the multi-sporting event are still trying to figure out what unit should some of the tankers of the University of San Carlos (USC) belong to since the school has north and south campuses.

USC has won several medals in swimming but officials are confused on where to credit them, whether to Unit Eight or to Unit Four.

Because of this development, organizers decided to exclude the points in swimming. Without the swimming tally, Unit Five slipped to second place with 106 points with Unit Nine, which includes Abellana National School (ANS), taking the top spot. Unit Four rounds up the top three with 96.5 points.

But Paref-Springdale spoiled ANS? bid in football as it escaped the Milo Little Olympics reigning champion via penalty shootout, 6-5.

This is the third time the two teams faced each other with Springdale winning twice.

Springdale head coach Mario Ceniza used the team?s height and physical advantage to take down ANS, which recently beat them in the Milo Little Olympics.

But ANS dominated the baseball and softball events to earn a combined 50 points while winning 25 more after ruling the sepak takraw contest.

Meanwhile, USC's Sally Mae Siso, Clarissa Fuentes, Claire Lazaga and Cheska Tabotabo ruled the team event of tennis while Bernardine Siso, Louie Pestano, Jaryo Laurel and AJ Torion matched their teammates in the boys? category.

Don Bosco Technical School, on the other hand, logged 30 points to catapult Unit One into the top of the elementary standings.

The 30 points came after their victory in football over Springdale. Unit One now has 116 points while Unit Four is at second with 103. Unit Five has 83.5 points and Unit Seven with 40.5 points.

Unit Eight's Reyboi Pepito snatched a gold medal in the last match of the secondary boxing.
