Game today:

(Araneta Coliseum)

3:30 pm ? UE vs Ateneo

Game 3, best-of-three series tied 1-1 HISTORY awaits for either the reigning champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles or the rampaging University of the East Red Warriors as the two squads battle for all the marbles in the deciding Game 3 of the Finals series of the 72nd UAAP basketball tournament, today at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Red Warriors kept alive their hopes of ending a 24-year title drought when they walloped the Blue Eagles, 88-68, in Game 2 last Thursday to tie the series at 1-1. Ateneo won Game 1 last weekend, 78-71.

Ateneo is aiming for its second back-to-back championship run and will need to have a solid game from 6-foot-7 main man Rabeh Al-Hussaini. The Ateneo giant was limited to just 17 markers in Game 2, a far cry from his 28-point performance in Game 1 which the Eagles won. Swingman Eric Salamat must also step up after he averaged a measly three points in the Finals.

UE on the other hand, is but a heartbeat away from finally reaching the promised land after failing to do it the last 24 years. The Red Warriors got tremendous performances from their big men Elmer Espiritu and Pari Llagas to tow them to their first win in the Finals in over two decades. Espiritu, the recipient of the Defensive Player of the Year award, had 22 points while Llagas had 19 markers. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
