AFTER AN EXCITING week in the quarterfinals that saw the league's best team go down and another almost sharing the same disastrous fate, the rest of the top seeds will be trying to march to the semifinal round when the quarterfinals of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament continues today at the Cebu Coliseum.

The seniors division will see the third-seed and last year's finalists University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars take on the sixth-seed Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats while the fourth-seed University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors battle the fifth-seed Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras. USJ-R and USC each hold a twice-to-beat advantage.

USJ-R will be hoping for a repeat of their 94-64 win over the Wildcats in the first round.

USC, meanwhile, edged SWU, 74-73, on a last second three-pointer by Giovanni Padillo in their first round encounter.

Already in the semifinals are the eight-time champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, who beat the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) last Thursday, 69-65.

The top-seeded University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters did not escape the upset axe as they were defeated by the Don Bosco Greywolves last Tuesday to set up a winner-take-all game this Tuesday.

The juniors class will see the CIT Wildkittens and the USJ-R Baby Jaguars try to advance to the next round against the USC Baby Warriors and Sacred Heart School-Jesuits (SHS-J) Eagles, respectively.

CIT and USJ-R also have twice-to-beat incentives. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
