4th DanceSport sa Sugbu opens

Cebu will once again have the dancesport spotlight shone on it as it hosts the 4th DanceSport sa Sugbu and 2009 Cebu IDSF World DanceSport Open Latin and Standard today at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino Grand Ballroom.

The city, along with its venerable Dancesport-Team Cebu City (DTCC) organization headed by director Edward Hayco, took center stage just recently after it grabbed he Guinness World Record for ?Biggest Dance Class.?

Now, they will be looking to live up more to their reputation as the ?Dancesport Capital of the World? with an event that has attracted over 3,000 athletes representing 14 countries, which will battle it out for the titles as they sway and sashay in the Latin and Standard disciplines including the dances Chachacha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive, Slow Waltz, Tango, Vienese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep.

Hayco added that another milestone to this competition is that cable TV channel Living Asia will feature the event.

Living Asia Channel is a 24-hour Asian travel and lifestyle channel, the first Philippine-made to air in North America.

It showcases the best of Asian destinations, finds, culture, cuisine, fashion, people, business, issues and investment opportunities in the Philippines and Asia.

?This will really springboard us to the international dancesport market and it really is a God-sent opportunity to be featured to the global dance community,? added Hayco, who will be unveiling DTCC's new slogan today. It is called ?Transforming our youth through dance.?

Foreigners from Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, Slovenia, UK, Hongkong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei, China and local tourists from the Philippines cities of Metro Manila, Tacurong City, General Santos City, Dumaguete City, Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City, Zamboanga City and Samar, Leyte have already confirmed attendance.
