THE UNIVERSITY of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers finished off their elimination round with a bang as they destroyed the Don Bosco College Baby Greywolves, 115-74, in the final playdate of the juniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament last Thursday at the Cebu Coliseum.
USPF ended the first round with a 3-5 (win-loss) record, good for seventh place in the standings. They will be facing the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers on Thursday in the quarterfinal round with the latter holding a twice-to-beat advantage.
Don Bosco, on the other hand, fell to their seventh defeat in eight matches and will have the unenviable task of taking on the undefeated defending champions University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters at the start of the next round on Tuesday at the University of San Carlos Gym.
Trigger-happy wingman Rommel Diapera was up to his old tricks once again as he came away with 31 points, mere days after scoring a tournament-high of 55 points against the Cebu Eastern College Dragons.
Joshua Corciles added 29 points for the Camilo Go-mentored squad. Lorezon Ruiz had 23 points for Don Bosco while John Ruiz contributed 22 markers./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
