THE THREE-TIME defending champions San Beda Red Lions tore apart the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 86-66, in their game in the 85th NCAA basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions, who are seeking their fourth straight title, dominated the entire second half and routed the Blazers behind the potent outside shooting of their guards and the imposing presence of their frontcourt players, namely Elvin Jake Pascual and 6-foot-8 Fil-American rookie Sudan Daniel, both of whom had a double-double performances.
Daniel, touted to be the heir to the throne left by former MVP Sam Ekwe, scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds on top of swatting away five shots. Pascual, on the other hand, a transferee from the Philippine Christian University (PCU), added 14 points and a game-high 17 boards as the Red Lions improved to solo second place with a 3-1 (win-loss) record behind Jose Rizal University and San Sebastian College. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
