Games today

(Araneta Coliseum)

4:00 p.m.- Burger King vs. San Miguel

6:30 p.m.- Rain or Shine vs. Ginebra

San Miguel and Rain or Shine drew first blood but Burger King and Barangay Ginebra were quick to bounce back as the semifinal round of the 34th PBA Fiesta Conference is shaping up to be a dogfight.

With the two semis battles reduced into a best-of-five affair, today's Game Three at the Araneta Coliseum could be the turning point of the two matchups.

The Whoppers and the Beermen take the floor first at 4 p.m. before the Elasto Painters and the Kings slug it out in the 6:30 p.m. main game.

Burger King and Ginebra stayed in contention by scoring crucial wins last Friday.

Ginebra squandered double-digit leads but recovered in time to escape Rain or Shine, 103-98, while Burger King also lost sizable leads but still found a way to hold off San Miguel, 116-113.

Ginebra avoided dropping into a deep 0-2 hole when import David Noel came up with five crucial points in the dying minutes.

?We dominated the game all throughout and tried to blow the game early. But they (Elasto Painters) kept battling and battling and wouldn?t go away,? said Barangay Ginebra coach Jong Uichico of their scrambling finish.

?The good thing is we managed to get through tonight?s game. But we have to go back to the drawing board and see what?s happening.?

Burger King also had to hold off San Miguel's endgame rally to also evade a dangerous 0-2 deficit.

"We would not win by a big margin against San Miguel. We just want to hang around and see what happens at endgame. If we hang around long enough, we would have our chance to win at endgame," Burger King coach Yeng Guiao told pba.ph.

"The longer the series goes, the better our chance to win it. And having won one game, our confidence is back. With our confidence back, I think we can play better the next game," Guiao added.

Shawn Daniels, Gary David and Arwind Santos conspired in the endgame and gave the Whoppers the needed baskets down the stretch.

"I really think we have enough players who can play at crunch time. They proved me right in this game," said Guiao.
