Cebu's top mixed martial arts fighters are ready and raring to do Cebu proud heading into their crucial matches in the Colt 45 Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Cebu fight card dubbed the ?Proving Grounds? this Saturday at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City.
Cebu was deflated in the last staging of the URCC after its prized fighter, Cary Bullos, was defeated in the main event of the fight card called ?Nemesis? last year.
Now, Cebuano fighters in the two main events, Engi ?The Destroyer? Piloto and Sabah ?The Persian Warrior? Fadai, have all but guaranteed victory in their respective bouts.
?Cebu will be feared after URCC 4. The loss by Cebu in the last URCC, it will not happen,? said Fadai in an interview yesterday at the Bistro Ecila, where he was joined by Piloto and fellow fighters Leo ?The Sandman? Gaerlan and Maxilito ?The Hyper Eagle? Yong.
Fadai will be ranged against the undefeated Andrew Bernibe of Manila's Maics Gym and so far, the Vancouver, Canada-native is confident that he can pull the win off and deal the latter his first loss in the URCC.
?I want to make it into a stand-up fight and not a submission one. I've seen one of his fights and I must say that my stand-up fight technique is better,? Fadai said. He holds a 3-1 (win-loss) MMA record and is ready to add another victory to his record in spite of the troubles that he has had with the humid Cebu weather.
?The weather here is really tough to adjust to and the weight is hard to make. But I've gotten a lot of support and it means a lot to me to represent Cebu,? he added.
Piloto, on the other hand, is expected to have his hands full with the 2008 Southeast Asian Games Wushu gold medalist Mark Ediva of the multi-titled Lakay Wushu squad of Baguio.
The two will be squaring off for the URCC Visayas featherweight belt.
Piloto has gained fame in his last fight, wherein he knocked his opponent clear out of the ring. The match was then called a no-contest.
?Okay iyang flexibility but I hope to counter with my kickboxing skills, which I have been focusing on in my training. Paninguhaon jud ni nako,? said Piloto, who is eying a slot in the URCC card in Macau later this year.
Gaerlan is also a fighter that is expected to excite fans with his skills, especially after his thunderous debut in URCC 3, wherein he knocked his opponent out in just 30 seconds.
He will be facing the country's reigning Muay Thai champion, Leonard Delarmino for the URCC Visayas bantamweight title.
Yong will be facing Alvin Amistoso for the flyweight crown. The official weigh in will be held tomorrow at the Loft at starting at 2 p.m.
