MANILA, Philippines - The composition of the Philippine delegation to the Southeast Asian Games has yet to be determined barely six months before the biennial meet unfolds in Vientiane, Laos.
?We don?t know yet, we don?t know the number yet,? said RP chief of mission Mario Tanchanco when asked about the number of athletes who will be sent to the Games.
Speaking at the PSA Forum at Shakey?s UN Avenue in Manila on Tuesday, Tanchanco said he has yet to receive official word from the Philippine Olympic Committee on the final composition of the RP delegation.
But the sepak takraw president believes there is no cause for alarm as the deadline for the submission of lineups is set in September.
?If we use the criteria of gold and silver medalists in the last SEA Games, then we will send 150 athletes,? he said. ?But if we include the bronze medalists, then it?s 300.?
Tanchanco, however, did not make any prediction on how Filipinos would fare this year.
The country won the overall championship when it hosted the Games in 2005. Filipino athletes will see action in Laos on the heels of a sixth-place finish in 2007 in Thailand.
?We must remember that in Thailand we won 92 silver medals and 42 of them came when we faced Thailand in the finals,? said Tanchanco. ?We could have finished No. 2.?
