Team Cebu City (TCC) finished with a total of six golds, four silvers and three bronze medals in the 2009 Milo-National Open Track and Field Championships, which ended yesterday at the Don Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Irin Banluran and Ernesto Ybanez won their second gold medals yesterday while Lindley Franz Navaja added one to hike TCC?s record to six.
Banluran ruled the girls trip jump while Ybanez topped the boys? event. Navaja won a gold medal in the 200 meters event.
Ybanez, who won his first gold medal the other day in the long jump, is overwhelmed that he was able to win another one in the triple jump with a distance of 14.94 meters. Jonathan Wong from Malaysia finished second with a distance of 14.71 meters and Redjeev Tahil of Zamboanga City had a distance of 14.25 meters to secure the bronze medal.
The 16-year-old Baluran was also ecstatic after she broke her own personal record in the girls long jump event from a distance of 5.22 to 5.33 meters. She also improved her triple jump record from 11.78 to 11.85 meters.
On the other hand, 17-year-old Lindley Navaja of University of Cebu (UC) clocked 21.04 seconds in the 200-meter run to win the gold.
?Last year, puro silver akong nadaogan sa 100, 200 and 4x100 meter dash,? Navaja said. ?Wala man ko na intimidate sa akong mga competitors, basta maningkamut lang ko and aim for the best and I?m happy that I was able to win a gold.?
Navaja, a civil engineering student, put up an impressive performance in the National PRISAA 2009 after sweeping all gold medals in the 100, 200, 4x100, 4x200 and classical relay.
In the 400 hurdles boys Reymar Bautro won a silver medal as well as Anthony Santillan in the 200 meter men clocking 22.69 while the girls 4x400 meters relay compose of Lila Dela Calsada, Vlessica Jagna, Sheena Gacayan and Je-an Racoma also took a silver medal.
