THE RUNNING Make A Difference (MAD) of Lahug Barangay Captain Mary Ann De Los Santos was officially launched yesterday at the Lahug Barangay Hall.

The said race will be held on May 24 with the starting point set at the University of the Philippines (UP) grounds.

Present in the press conference were the organizers headed by John Pages, president of the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC), Tinago Barangay Councilor Joel Garganera, Raffy Uytiepo and De Los Santos.

The event hopes to promote wellness in the community through running.

?We want to make a difference in the wellness and encourage everyone to be fit,? De Los Santos said.

The entire race will cover 12 kilometers and will have three categories.

?What makes it different is that the categories are more challenging because of its distance. It allows runners to do a little more and there will be booths along the route where people can get a chance to cheer,? Garganera said.

A thousand runners are expected to participate in the event.

The multi-titled Leszl Gitaruelas will participate in this race along with tv news anchor Heidi Acuña, John Philip Guenas, sports man Jonathan Guardo, Madelyn Carter and John Pages.

The winner will win P3,000 and a trophy for the 12-kilometer division while the six-kilometer winner will receive P2,000. The three-kilometer winner will be awarded with P1,000. Prizes are subject to change according Uytiepo.

Registration fee is pegged at P100 at the Lahug barangay hall, Sambag 1 barangay hall, Athletes Foot, Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu City Sports Center, Holiday Gym and Spa and the City Gym at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug. /Correspondent Dale Rosal
