2 p.m. – Pharex vs. Licealiz
4 p.m. – Magnolia vs. Cobra
THE RACE FOR the two other outright semifinal slots in the 2009 PBL PG Flex Unity Cup heats up today when the Magnolia Purewater and the Pharex Generix go for their first back-to-back wins as they face separate opponents at the San Juan Gym in San Juan City.
The Wizards of Magnolia will be trying to improve their current 2-2 (win-loss) slate when they battle the Cobra Energy Drink while the Generix take on the Licealiz Hair Doctors in the curtain-raiser at 2 pm.
The Generix are hoping to avenge their 78-87 loss to the Hair Doctors in the first round while the Wizards hope to have a repeat of their 69-67 squeaker over the Warriors in their first encounter.
So far, the Oracle Titans, formerly the Harbour Centre Batang Pier, are the only ones to book a semifinals slot after they swept the first round and then, added another victory in the second round.
They have yet to taste defeat in this tournament. Only the top three teams after the classification round will advance automatically in the Final Four with the last two placers squaring off in a best-of-three quarterfinal series.
With Licealiz and Pharex carrying similar 2-3 cards, expect both squads to go all-out to secure the needed win that will shore up their respective semis bids. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
