GARY Caneda clinched championship titles in the Expert and Novice categories to lead the winners of the first leg of the OZ Racing Grand Prix 2009 held at the Parkmall in Mandaue City Reclamation Area last Sunday March 29, 2009.
In the Expert event, Caneda is followed by Andrei Ursal, Robbi Neil Enriquez, Samuel Bernardino and RJ Manlise.
Motorcycle riders from different motor clubs and groups in Cebu who use underbone motorbikes, competed in the three-day tournament. Organizers are now preparing for the second leg this coming May 24, 2009. Three more legs in the five-leg series will be held this year at the Parkmall, Kartzone in Mabolo and in Danao City.
Competing teams include Team Norkis, Skut Garage, Team Cyrus, Team MAC, Team Pidot, Team Bradz, Team X Racing, Team OZracing and Team Dreibikes.
The event has five categories namely, Beginners Open 110 superstock, Beginner's Open 125 superstock, Automatic Mix Open, Novice Open and the premier Expert Open.
Meanwhile, winners in the Mix Automatic category are, Lyndon Requillme (champion), Insik Flores (second), Gilbert Miro (third), Keken Cabahug (fourth) and Andoy Sanchez (fifth).
Winners in the Novice category were: Caneda (champion), Requillme (second), Samuel Bernardino (third), Arnel Fajardo (fourth) and RJ Manlisi (fifth).
Marion Borbon was also a double champion after topping the Beginners category 125 and 110.
Rounding out the runners-up in the Beginners 125 were; Moises Munoz (second), Ranulfo Colina (third), Keken Cabahug (fourth) and Nelson Mayol (fifth).
Runners-up in the Beginners 110 were Keken Cabahug, Moises Munoz, Nelson Mayol and Jovenille Abellar.
Following the success of its initial leg last Sunday, OZ Racing has emerged as the breeding ground of potentail motorbike racers like Caneda and Borbon.
The remaining leg schedules are as follows: third leg July 26, fourth leg Sept. 20 and fifth leg Nov. 15.
After five legs, the Rider of the Year in each category will be chosen.
