Cebuano mixed martial arts fighter Cary Bullos suffered his first defeat as he was downed by veteran Lino “The Terminator” Tagacay in the main event of the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Cebu 3: Nemesis, Saturday evening at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
The energy that had been building up in anticipation of the main fight careened to a deafening halt after Bullos went down early courtesy of a powerful overhand punch from the 5-foot-5 Army man.
From there, doom started creeping in for the erstwhile undefeated Bullos as he desperately tried to fend off Tagacay's hard-hitting rush offense.
The end finally came at the 2:56 mark of the opening round as Tagacay was able to get away from the side-mount and move to the back of Bullos to apply a rear naked choke, a submission maneuver that proved to be too much to overcome.
The move prompted the latter to Bullos to tap out, giving him his first taste of defeat in four fights in the URCC.
“I knew when I landed the right hook that he was already groggy but I could not take advantage because of my injured knee. So I decided to take it slow and wait for another opportunity and luckily, it came,” Tagacay said as he awaits for a rematch with current bantamweight champion Justin Cruz, who defeated him for the title in October.
Bullos' loss was Cebu’s lone defeat in the event as six fighters came away with wins over their respective counterparts.
Demetrio Delatore of the C-Mac team won via submission over Bacolod Fight Club's (BFC) Victor Torre while Leo Gaelaran ended his bout with Jan Selaryo of BFC seconds into the first round after hitting a backhanded punch.
Jimy Yabo of Sel-Def won via technical knockout over Alan Orong of the Fitma Fighting Lions, Geronimo Efac of Yaw Yan Ardigma made Joselito Loregas tap out of a rear naked choke in the first round while Maxilito Yung and Alvin Amistoso also registered wins over their opponents.
