HIS NICKNAME may be the “The Prince” but top Cebuano Ultimate Reality Combat Championships (URCC) fighter Cary Bullos may very well be the king of URCC.
This, as he tries to rule his kingdom and defeat yet another former champion in the form of former bantamweight titlist Lino Tagacay in URCC-Cebu 3: Nemesis this weekend at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
The 5-foot-7 mixed martial arts fighter, who hails from Lapu-Lapu City and fights out of the Self-Defense MMA Club, is psyched to take on Tagacay and expects nothing short of a war in the main event this Saturday.
With supreme confidence in his training and his all-around fighting skills, he expects to come out on top and continue on his goal of fighting on the grandest stage of them all someday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Such confidence and resiliency can best be found in his and his brother's motto, which says “bahala ug mudaug, basta mudaug.” Such pride and passion was honed into Bullos at such an early age where at eight years old, he flirted with tae kwon do before taking on the rigorous martial art of Muay Thai.
“Hilig lang jud tingali ko ug sakit and competition,” said the soft-spoken Bullos in an exclusive interview with Cebu Daily News last weekend.
He has not turned his back ever since as he went on to MMA and took part in fight cards in Cebu events Ground and Pound, Only the Strong Survives and Ultimate Fights.
While his fast and hard-hitting punches may have gotten him success, Bullos acknowledges that he would not get to where he is right now had it not been for the vigilant eye of his elder brother, Lyndel, who acts as his sole trainer, coach and manager.
Bullos finally hit paydirt when he joined the URCC circuit where he currently remains undefeated. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
