Former Middle East billiards instructor Mario Tolentino finally ended a long, winless spell when he led the big winners in the recent 2nd Billiard Stars Search held at the famous Star Billiards Center in Quezon City, on Sunday.
Tolentino, best remembered after beating ex-Guinness Grand Finale champion Taiwanese Chang Jung-lin in the 2008 Puerto Princesa Philippine Pool Tour, defeated Val Pajuay, 10-5, in the finals of Division A.
The victory gave him not only the champion's trophy and the P30,000 winner?s check, but also a seat in the Tagaytay Kabayan Philippine Pool Tour next month in Tagaytay City.
Pajuay, on the other hand, settled for runner-up honors worth P15,000 while Francisco Felicilda got P8,000 for placing third.
Meanwhile, Jerico Bonus won Division B after beating Resty Labastiga, 9-4, in the finals, and got P20,000 while Weben Velarde bested Ronald Cayetano, 8-7, to rule Division C and take the first prize of P20,000.
Jason Marabi bagged the Division D title after beating Michael Pajares, 7-5. He received P20,000.
The double elimination event WPA Call Shot Ten-Ball affair, hosted and presented by Star Billiards Center in cooperation with the Billiards & Snooker Congress of the Philippines, Philippine Billiards Foundation and Raya Sports, attracted 186 players.
